City Manager's Biography

Mark B. Roath 

I began my employment as City Manager for the City of McAlester, Oklahoma in February, 2007.  Prior to being employed in McAlester, I worked in a similar position with the City of Wylie, Texas, a suburban community in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.  I have been in municipal management for twenty-three years in the states of Florida, Ohio, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas. 

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Montana; a Master of Arts degree in Political Science, with an emphasis on Public Administration, from Ohio University and a Juris Doctorate degree in Law from the University of Tulsa.  I am currently licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma.  

Besides my professional and educational experience, I served in the U.S. Navy in 1969.  In addition, I served in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica, Central America from 1973 to 1975.   

I am a member of the International City Management Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association. 

I am married and my wife’s name is Zeneida and we have two adult daughters, Rebecca and Jessica, who are themselves married.
