B.J. Boatright, Recreation Supervisor for the City of McAlester is responsible for the City's Recreation. He has been with the City for 30 years. He began in 1975 as a building inspector and in 1980 was promoted to Recreation Supervisor. His wife Karen has been the Court Clerk for 27 years they have 5 children.

B.J. is responsible for all the activities, cleaning and maintenance of the J.I. Stipe Recreation Center, Kiowa Center, Ridgecrest and Rotary Park. He is also responsible for all room rentals and special events at the Stipe Recreation Center and all park pavilion reservations at Rotary, Chadick and Hutchison Parks.

The J.I. Stipe Recreation Center is a Community Facility with a Gymnasium for Basketball and Volley Ball, a Racket Ball Court, and Men's and Women's Exercise Rooms with showers and saunas.

The Gymnasium, Conference Room, and Cafeteria are available for rent for meetings or special events. Anyone interested in booking a special event or renting a room or facility may call 421-4922 or 423-9268 for more information.

We offer a Men's and Women's Basketball Leagues in the fall and Women's and Coed Volleyball Leagues in the spring. Sign-ups for Fall Basketball Leagues will begin on October 1st. anyone interested in entering a team may call 421-4922.
