City Parks Parks

The Parks Department is responsible for the maintenance of all the City’s 13 parks as well as many trees that have been planted around the City and down the middle of Carl Albert Parkway along with numerous flower gardens located at the parks and City facilities.

City of McAlester’s Arboretum with its Pergola and unique waterfall has the only arboretum trail in the state that is fully handicap accessible. All trees are marked with a plaque which is inscribed in English and Braille with the species’ scientific and common names.

The Parks Department is affiliated with a national tree organization, and Oklahoma State University. Our city gardens are also used as testing grounds for new plants being evaluated prior to sale to the public.
