About Our Water
About City Water
The City of McAlester’s water treatment plant adds an aluminum-based polymer to the water as it enters the treatment process. This creates a floc that attracts suspended particles in the water. These particles settle to the bottom of three up-flow clarifiers. The clear water is then removed from the top of the clarifiers where it is sent to high rate sand filters. The plant has five filters that provide this final stage of treatment.

The treatment process adds chlorine for disinfection and a corrosion inhibitor to the water before it is pumped into the distribution system.

As a result of this process along with the dedication and hard work of the City’s staff, McAlester’s water treatment plant was voted Most Improved Water Plant in 2010 by the Oklahoma Environmental Training Center.
