A Message from the City Manager
For a long time, McAlester has been the best-kept secret in the Southeast Region, but now the word is getting out. Our community is the trade center for Southeastern Oklahoma, served by a rural population base of more than 130,000. To accommodate this population base, the City has carefully planned commercial and retail development, in addition to attractive residential communities. McAlester has a combination of big-city amenities and small-town charm.

Our scenic views, rolling hills with broad expanses of incredible beauty, have attracted many to our City. Once here, they enjoy thousands of acres of lakes, parks and other family recreational opportunities.

Land is available for development at competitive prices. With easy and convenient access to I-69, Indian Nation Turnpike, and linked east to west by Highway 270 and Oklahoma State Highway 31, transportation is only one of our advantages. Homes are available from the extreme high end to more moderate housing, and all are in safe, comfortable neighborhoods.

Our goal is to provide exceptional customer service and to make access to City government more convenient. This website was developed to be a powerful communication tool available to everyone in our community. We think you will find it packed with useful information that is easy to find.
