        Mr. John Modzelewski, Cordova, Tennessee, has accepted the position of Public

Works Director/City Engineer with the City of McAlester. Mr. Modzelewski has worked

in the private as well as public sector. Mr. Modzelewski's most recent public sector

position was as City Engineer with the City of Germantown, Tennessee. Previous public

sector positions that Mr. Modzelewski has held are: City Engineer, City of Columbia,

Tennessee; Principal Civil Engineer, City of Worcester, Massachusetts; Town Engineer,

Town of Auburn, Massachusetts and Town Engineer/Assistant Department of Public

Works Director, Town of Holden, Massachusetts.

        Mr. Modzelewski completed his Bachelors of Science degree, majoring in civil

engineering, at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Massachusetts. He is a

registered professional engineer in the States of Massachusetts, Mississippi, Tennessee

and Washington. Besides his licensure, Mr. Modzelewski has received numerous awards

including being recognized by the ASCE Tennessee Section as "Government Engineer of

the Year" in 2006.

        In announcing the appointment of Mr. Modzelewski, Mark B. Roath, City

Manager said, "Mr. Modzelewski has an extensive background in civil engineering,

which will benefit the City going forward." In addition, Mr. Roath stated, "Mr.  

Modzelewski's overall background in public works management should further benefit the City."

Mr. Modzelewski will begin his employment with the City on or before August 10, 2009.

He will be directly responsible for the Public Works Department including the divisions of

Engineering, Facilities Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance, Landfill, Refuse Collection,

Stormwater Quality Management, Streets and Traffic Control.
