City discusses survey results, projects at Active Transportation Meeting

The City of McAlester hosted an Active Transportation Meeting on May 6, 2024, at the J.I. Stipe Center located at 801 N. Ninth St. The focus included an update on projects, including Strong Boulevard, and the Parker Trails project.

The City was awarded a technical assistance grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Thriving Communities Program. This grant is designed to help rural communities like ours address walkability issues. Part of this initiative involves a modest sub-award to help identify critical areas and determine the best strategies for improvement, whether through planning or demonstration projects.

The City prepared a brief survey to gather community input on sidewalks and other forms of alternative transportation.
