The City of McAlester Utilities Department provides many of the basic services that affect the daily lives of everyone who lives and works in McAlester. Primarily, the department is responsible for many things we take for granted on a daily basis. This includes the production and distribution of over 2 billion gallons of water per year and the treatment of over 1 billion gallons per year of wastewater. It also includes the repair and maintenance of over 1000 water line breaks per year, as well as sewer line repair and maintenance.

          The Utilities Department is staffed with a trained and certified / licensed workforce of approximately 35 employees under the leadership of David R. Medley, P.E..

            David R. Medley, P.E. began his employment with the City of McAlester in August, 1992 and served as Assistant City Engineer for 15 years before being promoted to Utilities Director in April, 2008. Prior to beginning his employment with the City of McAlester, Mr. Medley worked for 11 years as a project and design engineer for several private consulting firms on municipal water, wastewater, and street projects in Oklahoma, Arizona and Kentucky.

            Mr. Medley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters of Science degree from Oklahoma State University. He also has had his professional engineer license in Kentucky and Arizona and has been licensed in the State of Oklahoma since February, 1993.
