Development Block Grants

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is federally funded and designed to expand economic opportunities in rural communities. Local governments can sponsor applications for public infrastructure or economic improvements on behalf of private businesses that will create jobs resulting from those improvements.

The Oklahoma Department of Commerce administers the program for the entire state. For additional information on eligibility requirements and potential uses, please review their Website and their Guidance Handbook

Local Example in Action

The City of McAlester assisted an existing business by acquiring a 50,000 square-foot, vacant industrial building through a Community Development Block Grant. The building was then leased to the expanding business at an affordable rental rate.
