Composition
The Board of Adjustment shall be composed of five members, citizens of the City of McAlester, each appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council for a term of three years provided that for the first appointment under the provisions the ordinance, one member shall be appointed for a term of one year, two members shall be appointed for a term of two years, and two members shall be appointed for a term of three years. Two alternate members shall be appointed for overlapping terms of two years. All appointments thereafter shall be for a term of three years.

Purpose
The purpose of the board is to hear and decide appeals from any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by the city manager in the enforcement of this article. The board also hears and decides special exceptions to the terms of this article upon which such Board of Adjustment under such regulations may be required to pass.

The board was established by council August 24, 1959, Ord. No. 970, Ord. No. 1848.
