Composition
The Community Tree Board shall consist of seven members who shall be appointed by the mayor with the concurrence of the City Council. It shall function as an autonomous, separate arm of the McAlester Park Board, and shall advise and make recommendations to the council and City Manager on matters pertaining to street or park trees within the City limits of McAlester.

All members of the board shall work without compensation. Each member of the Tree Board shall serve for a period of two years, except the term of three members of the initial board shall be for only one year, and the term of four members shall be for two years. Not less than two members shall be appointed from the membership of the Planning Commission. The board shall elect a chairman from its membership to serve for a term of two years.

Purpose
It shall be the responsibility of the board to study, investigate, develop and / or update annually, a written plan for the care, preservation, trimming, planting, replanting, removal and disposition of trees and shrubs in public lands and in public rights-of-way.

The board was established by council May 13, 1970, and revised by Ord. No. 1789, September 9, 1986
