Composition
The board consists of nine members. One member shall be appointed from each of the six wards of the City and one shall be a member at large, such members to be appointed by the mayor with the approval of the City Council. Two members shall be elected by the student body of McAlester High School. The students so elected shall serve for a one-year term and be residents of the City and all other members shall serve for a term of three years. The members shall serve without compensation.

Purpose
The board shall advise and make recommendations to the council and the city manager on any matters pertaining to parks and recreation.
