McAlester Recycling Center Closing

The McAlester Recycling Center will be closing all operations starting at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, due to issues arising from the COVID-19 pandemic response and precautions. The shut down is the result of a lack of staffing to process recyclables paired with the closure of down-stream facilities that accept the materials from the site.

“Since our partners that take the recyclables from our center shut down, we have no option but to close our facility to prevent waste from piling up with nowhere to go,” said City Manager Pete Stasiak. “We know our citizens are committed to recycling and hope to find a way to reopen the center in the future.”

Citizens are unable to leave items at the drop-off facility and are asked to dispose of them in the same manner as their household trash during the closure. There is no date set to reopen the center at this time.
