Michael J. Hunter Park

Located at S. Herbert McIntosh Jr. Street and Chickasaw Avenue, this is a 7.6-acre community park contains a baseball field, basketball courts, wading pool, restrooms and playground. This park also has two small picnic pavilions, a walking trail, public use grills, water, electric and ample parking.

This park is named for Michael J. Hunter who was born on November 2, 1946.  Hunter was drafted into the Army via the Selective Service and served during the Vietnam War.  Hunter began his tour on July 7, 1966 and had the rank of Specialist Four with a specialty of Light Weapons Infantry.  Hunter served with the 1st Infantry Division, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry, B Company.  Michael J. Hunter experienced a traumatic event which resulted in loss of life on March 15, 1967 in South Vietnam, Binh Duong province.  Hunter is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington DC, with his name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 16e, Line 84.  Hunter received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart commendations.
