Burning Within the City of McAlester
Open burning shall be unlawful without first obtaining a permit from the City of McAlester. A permit may be obtained to burn natural vegetation (brush, undergrowth, etc.) online here or by calling the Utility Billing Office at 918-423-9300. If a permit is granted, the burning shall be done in strict compliance with the directions given with granting of the permit. Permits may be issued for small and large burns.

The permit fee for a small burn (burn pile no larger than 6 feet by 6 feet by 4 feet in height) shall be $25. The permit fee for a large burn shall be $50. (Ord. No. 2103, § II, 9-28-99; Ord. No. 2209, § 1, 9-27-05.) The application may be obtained from the Utilities Department at City Hall. Once the fee has been paid, the burn site will be inspected by Fire Department personnel for compliance. Upon passing inspection the burn permit will be granted.

Sec.106-303. Burning of Refuse: It shall be unlawful for any person to burn any refuse (trash) anywhere within the City. This section is hereby declared necessary for the proper protection of the property and health of the citizens of the city, and violation of this section is hereby declared to be a public nuisance and unlawful.
