City offers Christmas tree pickup service

Here are some questions and answers about the City of McAlester's Christmas tree pickup program:

1. Is the City of McAlester picking up Christmas trees this year?
Yes. The City of McAlester’s Parks and Recreation Department will pick up live Christmas trees for city residents starting now through Jan. 12, 2024.

2. What does it cost?
Nothing. It’s free and available to McAlester residents.

3. How does it work?
McAlester citizens will need to call the J.I. Stipe Center at 918-421-4922 to schedule a pickup time for city workers to safely dispose of their Christmas trees.

4. What happens to the trees?
The discarded trees will be mostly used as fish habitats in McAlester lakes and other environment-friendly uses.

5. Can the city pick up my artificial tree?
Artificial trees will not be accepted. However, Keep McAlester Beautiful hosts cleanup events each spring and fall to accept various types of unwanted items.
